Commercial Vehicle
For Emergency Responders

Commercial Vehicle is taught in two phases.  During the first phase, students are assigned to sedans, which allow them to learn the fundamentals of vehicle dynamics and the importance of proper vehicle placement.  The student learns threshold braking (ABS and non-ABS), accident avoidance, and skid recovery (on a wet skid pan).  The student is required to perform low speed precision exercises that address common problems associated with front-end swing, and rear wheel cheat.  These exercises include precision backing.

During the second phase, the student is instructed in pre-trip inspections and performs low speed precision exercises in a commercial vehicle.  The student receives intensive instruction pertaining to the proper use of mirrors and judging distance while backing.  Our commercial course is designed to be adjustable to fit various sized vehicles ranging from ambulances to 70 foot tractor-trailer units.

The final portion of the commercial vehicle course includes simulated code three driving on the cornering exercise.  This exercise is designed to replicate the stress experienced during a code three response.  This will challenge the student's skills in controlling weight transfer, using proper roadway position, threshold braking, throttle control, and smooth steering input.

Off Road
We offer a basic and advanced off road driving course for class B and C vehicles.  This off road course includes slope calculations, and safe winching techniques.  The hands on portion of this class requires the student to operate a vehicle over various types of terrain.  This terrain includes ascending and descending slopes of up to 42 degrees, operating on side slopes, crossing washouts, driving over large rocks, sand, and river rocks.  The winching portion requires the student to operate a power winch, use straps, chains, and a snatch block.
